Pro-Labor Union Protests in Wisconsin
Just a few things labor unions fought to provide us.
40-hour work week
Child labor laws
Eight-hour work days
Sick/vacation days
Safety
Thirty thousand people are protesting in Madison, Wisconsin and where are the media?! Ed Shultz and MSNBC have been the only ones focusing on this until today when CNN finally sent a camera. And, President Obama? Where are you on this issue?
I stand with the public workers. PUBLIC is not a four-letter word.

The time for labor unions and all they provide, is over. As much as i miss all they used to provide, they only provided it to some ofthe poeple., the rest of us suffer. If the union workers come down to the level of the regular working person, in their collective bargaining, we would be happy to pay their salary. but they are way behind when it comes to sacrifices, as is evident by the working people who are non-union. do you propose a union for everyone? The resst of us throw our hands up
We dont care anymore, we have lost our homes, nevermid our credit rating, or where we get our health care from, we actually shop aroundc for who wont sue us. We are the middle class and we dont care about your retirement fund that you didnt pay for. *I* payed for it, and i am going to pay for it as long as it takes., YOU however are not required to pay for mine. *I* am. and as much as it pains me, I must admit.....i have no retirement plan. I hope to survive. Starve to death, maybe, but if i qualified for anything I wouldnt be so mad. I watch everyone else living off the system and wondering why in the world I bother to try!
Carol - Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I hear your concern about the lack of a retirement plan and future. Many of us are in similar situations.
It is because of labor unions that I and many people my age were able to go to college and move into the middle class. Granted, when the economy was good for everybody, unions took advantage just like others.
I can't be nor do I want to be a teacher, a police officer, a fireman, etc., but I appreciate those who are willing to do it. Anything provided as an incentive for these public servants is okay by me. I want our best people in these jobs and I have no problem helping to pay for their best service.
I don't propose a union for everybody, although the service industry could certainly use some support. I do hope that what the people in Wisconsin are doing this week will help open the eyes of management so that you and I do not work hard all of our lives with nothing to show for it.
ADDENDUM: Labor unions must exist if the Democratic Party is to survive. So, yes, I support unions wholeheartedly!
