Ezra Klein: Bush Tax Cuts v Obama Tax Cuts

This chart is worth 1,000 words. Compiled by Ezra Klein in The Washington Post, this shows clearly who truly benefits from the Bush tax cuts. I personally know very few people who make over one million dollars; in fact, I don't think I know anyone who makes over a million dollars. Therefore, it amazes me at the number of people who parrot the GOP's talking points and who support extending the Bush tax cuts.

I'm a Republican who makes roughly 30-40k per year. I do not see how tax breaks for the super rich will make a difference. The tea parties and GOP make it sound like millionaires will go broke because they don't get their 100k in tax breaks. They make it sound like millionaires won't reinvest in their companies because they are not getting their extra 100k in taxes.

For me, the amount I get in tax breaks pretty much pays for my property taxes - and until recently, it didn't cover 1/3 of them. I see no problem in letting them expire, and I will be willing to see my tax breaks go away if it means a return to fiscal stability for the nation.

I hope the president pushes this issue and refuses to compromise or forces the GOP to answer just how they plan on paying for these cuts...

Kevin - Thank you for your comment. It appears to me the super rich don't even want a tax cut. As Warren Buffett said (paraphrasing): "Who should have to pay? Me or the woman who served my lunch today?" So many people I know continue to vote against their own best interests.
