We all have those songs we love, not because the song is so great but because of where/what/when/who we were doing at the time, right? When we hear it now, it takes us back to that same time and feeling.
Were there songs you liked until something happened that was kind of cheesy? Here's an example: I grew up with and liked the Righteous Brothers. I liked their song Unchained Melody until it showed up in the movie Ghost. Nice scene but now I see Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze when I hear that song and I really don't want to think of either of them separately or together.
Same thing with Eric Clapton's Wonderful Tonight. Nice song, right? I was at a Clapton concert and at the first recognizable chord all the guys pulled their dates in front of them, wrapped their arms around them, and began swaying back and forth in unison, like robots. That one memory completely ruins the song for me now.
Tom Cruise dancing to Bob Seger's Old Time Rock and Roll was another fun cinematic moment. While I personally had a great time dancing to that song at a Seger concert, I now think of Tom Cruise dancing in his underwear (and, oddly, the Ron Reagan, Jr. parody on SNL).
I was listening to a classic radio mix on Pandora today and found some songs just felt wrong. What happens when good songs turn cheesy through no fault of their own? Have you experienced this and, if so, what song turned cheesy for you?
