Guest Blogger: Joy In All Things

There is joy in all things if we look—a beautiful sunset, stepping into a mountain path, watching birds build a nest, the purr of a cat. Thich Nhat Hahn (1926-current), a Vietnamese Zen Buddhist monk and Nobel Prize nominee, for example, finds joy in waking up to 24 brand new hours each day, another opportunity to see compassion in all beings.

For some reason, many of us often focus our energy only on the negative. How is that working out? By living in the moment, it is possible to experience joy in every thing we experience and achieve permanent inner peace.

Here are a few haiku that express joy as it has appeared to me in a moment…

Without Fault
See kindness not fault
Snow-lined coyote fences
Experience joy

Father and Son
Nothing but blue sky
Walking up the mountain pass
Just father and son.

Gaze Westward
The round ball of light
Melts into the Pacific
As we gaze westward

Pinons Sway
Nothing but blue sky
As pinons sway with the wind
Painting the landscape

Cloudless
Deep vast cloudless skies
No beginning and no end
Blue mountain flowers

Eagle Feather
Lone eagle feather
Lying on the mountain pass
Signifying peace

Thich Nhat Hanh was never a recipient of the Nobel prize, he was nominated for it by Martin Luther King.
