A B C Wednesday, Round 5

Y is for Yurt

I had never heard of a yurt until recently when I read a wonderful story in The New York Times about a young, adventurous couple who, with their toddler, live in a yurt in Seldovia, Alaska. The article: Broadband, Yes. Toilet, No. Slideshow here.

A Mongolian-style tent, a yurt is a circular wooden frame covered with felt. They are portable for easy assembly and dismantling. As with any dwelling, they go from basic to more extravagant. Here are two pictures from Rainier's website:

Not being an outdoors person, I found this style of living and dwelling fascinating.

Y is for Yurt. ABC Wednesday is hosted by Denise at mrsnesbittsspace.

How funny. I expected multiple yellows and yesterday, but yours is the fourth yurt!

There are at least a couple of parks in Oregon that have yurts to rent for campers. They're very popular. These are really cool! Great shots and a fun word for the Y day!

Enjoy!

Loved the fancy decoration on the yurts. I think that's "civilized" camping. Looks like fun.

These are much fancier yurts than those in Mongolia! It would be fun to stay in one that Sylvia K described in Oregon!

This is the third posting of Yurt that I see in this round. Indeed, yours looks so fancy. Apparently, Yurt is not just of Mongolian any more.

Gosh we are awash with yurts today, but no two alike. Love that little forest one in the second photo, I want one of those.

I yurt-ed, as well. Actually, I've been long yearning for a yurt so it didn't surprise me that it cropped up with the Y prompt! This one looks like fun, too. Like Roger, I'm surprised at the plethora of yurts! :)

Now that looks like my style of camping! What eye-catching structures...I'd like to find one of these parks. Nice post for "y."
