The Test Case

Reuters UK reported Uganda is set to pass legislation criminalizing homosexuality under the guise of promoting "family values".  The Anti-Homosexuality Bill-2009, as it is being called, proposes:
1) Being gay = life in prison
2) HIV positive = death by hanging
3) Ugandan living in another country suspected of being gay = legalized extradition for prosecution
4) Aware of gay person but do not report person to the government for prosecution = 3 year prison term (think parent and child)

Many countries have extreme laws about sexuality and other things. The difference here is that Americans are involved; Uganda has been reported as a "test case" for the American Social Conservatism movement. For example, Rick Warren of Saddleback Church has referred to Uganda as a "purpose-driven nation", thus the outrage at Rick Warren's invitation to offer a prayer at President Obama's inaguration ceremony. Warren has been to and sided with Uganda against the Anglican church because the church was "too gay".

Emphasis on homosexuality "reorientation" (changing one's sexual orientation with religious intervention) encouraged the President of Uganda to drop successful condom and HIV prevention programs for "abstinence only" (or else! my comment).

Involvement by U.S. Senators and Congressmen associated with the infamous C Street Family include (but possibly not limited to):
Senator Tom Coburn (R-Okla)
Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS)
Senator John Ensign (R-Nev)
Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla)
Congressman Joe Pitts (R-PA)
Congressman Bart Stupak (R-MI)

If these names sound familiar, these are the senators involved in the biggest GOP sex scandals of 2009 (all with women this time, as far as we know). Reuters reports this legislation is set to pass to "appease its donors". Follow the money. Who are the donors, C Street?

On a personal note, if this group wins via decades of terrorizing women and the providers of choice for women (i.e., abortion, a legal medical procedure) then expect them to go after homosexuality next.
