Facing Facebook

After resisting for x-number of years, I finally took the plunge and registered for Facebook. I registered on Saturday, deactivated on Sunday, and reactivated a couple of hours later. In just a few days, I began checking my FB page as often as I used to check voice mail.

At 55, I don't need the same kind of social acknowledgement from my peers. There are no old scores to settle or social cliques in which to aspire. It is simply a method of connection and, in some cases, reconnection. I'm sure there is nothing I can add about this method of communication that hasn't already been discussed ad nauseum; I suspect there are probably college courses studying socialization and implications of Facebook and MySpace. I just needed a reason to share this great photo of Bart Simpson.

See you on FB!
