I love end-of-the-year lists; I posted my best/worst lists for 2008. Now, we're facing the end of the 21st Century's first decade and Newsweek has already posted their Decade in Review.
My favorite lists from Newsweek include:
Overblown Fears (list and essays here):
1) Y2K
2) Shoe Bombs
3) Vaccines Cause Autism
4) Immigrants
5) Bloggers (Really? Bloggers?)
6) SARS, Mad Cow, Bird Flu
7) Web Predators
8) Teen Oral Sex Epidemic
9) Anthrax
10) Globalization
I could add another 10 overblown fears just since President Obama's election!
Unknown in 1999, Indispensable Now (list and essays here):
1) Wikipedia
2) YouTube
3) iTunes
4) DVR
5) Gardasil
6) Chipotle
7) TMZ
8) Red Bull
9) Free Credit Reports
10) E-Tickets (Online Airline Check-In)
What do you find indispensable that we didn't have available in 1999? I was going to vote for the iPod/iTunes as #1 but then realized I looked up the introduction date on Wikipedia!
