The End of Date Night

Forget Oprah!  My Friday night date is abandoning me in April 2010. Bill Moyers of Bill Moyers Journal on PBS has introduced me to writers, educators, poets, historians, global health specialists, and real religious scholars; most recently, he hosted economists who were able to explain the current state of the U.S. economy, financial bailouts, and stimulus programs in ways I could understand. He may be the only ordained minister I would give an hour of my time.

Moyers worked as special assistant to and then White House Press Secretary for President Lyndon Johnson. This week he used White House recordings during that period to trace a president's steps in escalating war.

PBS is looking at restructuring and reinventing their news areas. These days, one doesn't trust that 'reinventing' won't turn into tabloid and opinion news, as in cable.  It has been difficult to raise money recently; mothers saved PBS during the last scare.

Time with my weekly date is short. I'll miss him.

"When I learn something new—and it happens every day— I feel a little more at home in this universe, a little more comfortable in the nest." ~Bill Moyers
