Sunday Reflections: The Office

As I've eluded to in other posts, my current job position is becoming obsolete. After eleven years of working at home, I am now scheduled to work at my office two days a week. It wasn't as bad as I had expected, except for the hymns.....and the Bible verses....and the backstabbing.....and being confronted with the anxiety over the uncertainty of the rapidly changing workforce.

I can't really complain about the hymns; not everybody would recognize them as hymns. Well, everybody at MY office would, but not everybody in the real world. And, I've been called on some of the songs I've sung under my breath...

Coworker: What did you just say?
Me: What?
Cw: That song you're singing?
Me: I don't know. Why?
Cw: It was something about a rat?
Me: Oh. Just a song I heard on the way to work.
Cw: What song?
Me: Hmmmm..."despite all my rage, I am still just a rat in a cage"?* That song?
Cw: Slowly moves away from my desk.......
Thank Apple I now have an iPod.

Despite all my years of loyalty, I'm still just another drain on the payroll.
