Thanks for commenting on my three O posts. The two Oldhams are not directly linked. The town of Oldham is only about 10 miles from Hyde, but the cork factory is named from an owner of the factory not the nearby town but the owner's name will originally have been associated with the town many generations down the line. As for the name Mumps it is the name of an area of the town - I understand it derives from an old word for "beggars".
