The Rachel Maddow Show: Happy Birthday!

I get my news from NPR, PBS, and legitimate online newspapers.  When I heard last year that Rachel Maddow would have a program on MSNBC, I turned the "TV machine" back on and I rarely miss The Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC, Monday-Thursday Friday, 8 p.m. CST.  She is the perfect fit between the PBS NewsHour, formerly The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.  Sorry Rachel! Friday nights are reserved for PBS, but I usually DVR the program and catch it later.

Why am I telling you this?  For the one year anniversary last night, she requested that viewers recommend the show to others as a birthday present.  You may have noticed that I have had a banner advertising the show on my blog since it began.  I highly recommend it and here's why:  Rachel is smart, funny, polite, straightforward, hip, and a policy 'wonk' (her word, not mine).  She is young at 35 years old, is a Rhodes scholar with a PhD from Oxford, and she is openly gay, an industry first.  And, she doesn't own a television or "TV machine", as she calls it.  She keeps her eye on the "Internet machine", however. She and her staff are well-prepared and the viewer actually learns something when she reports and interviews. She will tell you she is not a news reporter; she came to MSNBC from Air America Radio.  She is honest about her left leanings but listens to the other side.  And, nobody shouts!

The Rachel Maddow Show is well worth your time.
