The Thursday night opener didn't disappoint. South Carolina barely squeaked by North Carolina State, 7-3, but put a 'W' in the SEC column. The opener was not without it highs and lows, which may be why I love the sport in the first place. Boise State (14) defeated Oregon (16) by a score of 19-8, only to have it end with a Boise State player taking it on the jaw by Oregon running back, LeGarrette Blount. It only got worse from there with Blount totally losing his cool and having to be restrained and practically carried to the locker room. Sadly, this didn't look like a player with high emotions from a hard fought game but a player with serious anger issues. Sadly, there was also fighting among the Oregon players themselves. Of course, it could have been Blount and team's unconscious reaction to being hypnotized by that ugly blue field. Sorry Boise State. I know that is your thing, but the rest of us wants to hurl.
In the NFL, Michael Vick showed he hadn't lost his talent for running and even scored a touchdown. Before PETA comes down on me, I don't condone what he did. Yet, he has served his time and (I think) should be allowed to return to his life, have the ability to make a living, AND be able to vote.
Celebrate! Football season has officially begun!
